Well, it's the last day of term for me today and then I'm off to Scotland on Sunday. One week in Aberfeldy then one week in Glen Coe. Can anyway suggest any great scrambles to do whilst there, nothing to difficult, just grade 1 or 2?
I was thinking about the Aonach Eagach and the grade 1 on Beinn a' Chrulaiste. Any other recommended ones? |

There are of course loads on Buchaille Etive Mor, some of which are above grade 2. I've done a pleasant grade 1/2, Great Gully Buttress, but probably the adjoining Broad Buttress, grade 2, is better - it gets 3 stars rather than one in 'Scrambles in Lochaber'. I've also done Summit Buttress on Beinn a' Chrulaiste on the opposite side of the glen from the Buchaille, a grade 2 - short, but with quite a feeling of exposure. It might make a decent short day if you could also locate Pink Rib (grade 1) from above, descend next to it and go up that as well - however, I couldn't locate it from above and, descending ad lib, by the time I could identify it above me, I'd gone so far down I couldn't be arsed to go up all the heather again to scramble it! Anyway, there's loads to choose from in Scrambles in Lochaber, so I'd recommend getting hold of it if you haven't already. |

| Cheers for the advice, didn't do any of the classics but I did "discover" a rather adventurous gully scramble on Mam na Gualainn by Loch Leven which i suspect has rarely (if ever) been ascended before. Also got up the Pap of Glencoe which has 50m of surprisingly good rock at the top. Write-ups coming soon. |

sorry i didn't get in touch before, haven't been online for a while. living in scotland as i do i could have recommended loads of good stuff especially in glen coe. i have scrambled the etive mor and had a good time, mixing a grade 2 and a 3, but it was too misty to try to find crowberry tower. found a good route up alongside crowberry gully - echos from the climbers below ring all around!. bumped into a few guys from Ayr at the top - scared the life out of them when i emerged from the mist behind them - thinking they were alone at the top!.
also had a good start to Aonach Eagach vai an often negelcted route up A'Chailleach - good easy route until the rhyolite which can test folk.
i will have a go at Sron na Creise soon, a route that gets good write ups in most guidebooks.
if you didn't want to go that far of course, The Cobbler at Arrochar is great fun.
what ever - be safe |
