The best scrambling route in Glen Shiel is Forcan Ridge, a fun Grade 2, best in summer.

Forcan Ridge

Parking in large layby on south side of road opposite plantation NG972138. Walk over road bridge 700m NW and turn SW onto path.

This path is possibly one of the easiest paths I’ve ever taken up to 500m so quick! A km to the southwest on easy ground will bring you to the base of the Forcan Ridge, you won’t miss it. As with most scrambles there are various lines to take, the harder line here is to stick to the crest as it rises, there seems to be a bypass path on the right missing out most obstacles (why?).

A particularly sharp section leads to a steepening and onto the summit of Sgurr na Forcan, the second part of the scramble onto The Saddle is revealed. First there is a sharp drop (10m?) which can be down climbed, or abseiled, with an easier option down a gully on the left. Pick up the crest again and onto The Saddle (Munro).

Options from here usually includes another Munro, Sgurr na Sgine to the SE. From the latter peak descending over Faochag very steeply will return you to the start. 8 miles. This is an outstanding scramble with superb views (given the weather!) over Glen Shiel.
