Y Gribin Grade 1*

Y Gribin

This ridge seperates Cwm Bochlwyd and Cwm Cneifion and offers a good way onto or off the Glyders from the Ogwen Valley.

It's low in its grade and a path takes the easiest line. The scramble shouldn't take much more than 30mins but the views across the Ogwen Valley compensate for this shortness.

Start at Ogwen Cottage and walk up to Llyn Bochlwyd. Turn west here and gain the path at the base of the ridge which heads north. Follow the path here; just walking with the occasional rock step until it flattens out at a large grassy area.
The rock crest of Y Gribin rears up above. A path stays to the right of the crest but for the best scrambling head straight to the rocky ridge. The route is relatively easy, comprised of rock steps and flatter sections, though livened up with an exciting drop on the left into Cwm Bochlwyd. If a step appears to difficult then it can generally be avoided on the path-side of the crest.
Soon the rock runs out and the ridge widens again. Turn right for the summit of Glyder Fawr or left for Glyder Fach.

If heading to Glyder Fawr then the best descents are either Seniors' Ridge (grade 1) or the Devil's Kitchen path. If on Glyder Fach either scramble down Bristly Ridge (grade 1 but knowledge of the route in ascent advised) or descend the screes to its east side and follow the path back into Cwm Bochlwyd.
